By: Zoetrope Arts PR When: THURSDAY, June 16, 2011 from 8 AM to 10 AM Who: Scheduled to read from Ulysses are JAMES NEWMAN, “Tony” from the recent MTV series Skins;FIONNULA FLANAGAN, whose many movie credits include the 1967 film Ulysses; AEDIN MOLONEY, founder and artistic director of New York based Fallen Angel Theatre Company; TERRY GEORGE, director and Academy Award nominated writer of Hotel Rwanda; ISAIAH SHEFFER, founding director of Symphony Space which hosts its 30th annual Bloomsday on Broadway Thursday evening; and CHARLOTTE MOORE, artistic director of the Irish Repertory Theatre. Ireland’s Minister for Finance MICHAEL NOONAN will also attend. Costumed dancers and the musical group “Songs of Joyce” will add to the festivities, as will approximately 500 guests, some in Edwardian attire. Where: Bryant Park’s Upper Terrace, behind the main branch of the New York Public Library, between 5th Avenue and Avenue of the Americas and between 40th and 42nd Street. Story elements: New York’s kick-off to the now international celebration of Bloomsday; dramatic setting in the urban oasis of Bryant Park; dancers and guests in period costumes, live music, and theatrical flourishes make for a vivid, colorful scene, Irish actors giving spirited readings of Joyce’s work, hundreds of guests from cultures far beyond the Irish community gathering around a traditional Irish breakfast; actors and other notables available for comment on the meaning of Joyce and the international Bloomsday phenomena.
