Follow on Google News | Chemical Tanker Sanmar Majesty: Major Drydocking And Lay-up Repairs Completed Sucessfully.The combined chemical and oil tanker Sanmar Majesty (10,314 DWT) capable of carrying Sulphuric Acid (H2SO4) was successfully accommodated for major lay-up and drydocking repairs earlier this year.(January 2011).
By: Darshana Chandrasekera, Head of Marketing, SR Colombo has been the preferred repair centre for Sanmar Shipping over the past few years, where the shipyard has proved its capability by handling sophisticated tankers meeting the international quality /safety standards of the industry. During this call the sulphuric acid carrier was accommodated in Dock No. 01 (30,000 DWT). This chemical carrier was given special preference, due to the hazardous cargo type and the extensive work package executed by the yard during this call. The main scope of work consisted of: Stainless steel (316) clad steel renewal in way of cargo tanks – approx 5 tons, Pit build up, renewal of Steam heating coils over 1,000 meters, overhaul of cargo pumps, , extensive steel renewal (Approx. 35 tons) in the double bottom tank (8 centre), main engine turbo charger overhaul, boiler repairs, cooler repairs. Yard also handled the pickling and passivating of 7 Nos. stainless steel cargo tanks with service specialist attendance. Tank blasting and coating work on the double bottom tanks. This scope was handled in addition to the routine drydocking related repairs.
