May 30, 2011 - PRLog -- Bobby Kerr, Insomnia owner and Dragons’  Den panellist, will show his true colours on Sunday June 5th, 11.30AM at the Greenieland stand in Bloom (G67), when he launches  ‘Gordon Goes to Greenieland’, the first in a series of children’s books (for children aged 5+) by Galway-based author/illustrator Morag Kelly and co-writer Michael Duggan.

Bobby Kerr will kick off by colouring in the first piece of the ‘Barnardo’s Greenieland Mural’. According to Kerr, “Passers-by, adults and children, will be invited during the course of the day to help myself, Morag and the Greenieland team complete the Barnardo’s mural, which will be donated to the charity for three projects in their Best Start programmes”.   The Dragons’ Den panellist, a dedicated supporter of small business initiatives and charities added, “20% of book sale proceeds will go to Barnardos on the day.  Barnardos currently use ‘Gordon goes to Greenieland’ as part of their bereavement services".

This charming and unique book is 100% Irish.  Based on the seasons, a relevant poem introduces each part of the story.  The young reader is taught the benefits of protecting the environment and the cycles of nature and human life are introduced in a gentle and subtle manner.

Morag Kelly, two times Bloom medal winner and author of ‘Gordon Goes to Greenieland’, said “I’ve always been passionate about issue of sustainability and growing your own produce.   I decided to embark up on this idea having completed my diploma in Garden Design.  I wanted to produce something educational and fun”.

Morag and Michael will be at the Greenieland Bloom Stand (G67) to greet all the children who would like to ‘Meet Greenie’.  Morag will also be doing book readings at the Bloom children’s stage area each day at 12 noon.

As well as the Barnardo’s Mural, the Greenieland team are looking forward to inviting passers-by both young and old, to take part in a series of murals for the Beaver Scouts and the Irish Girl Guides Association, who both use ‘Gordon Goes to Greenieland’ for environmental awareness projects and in helping their young members come to terms with the passing of a loved one.

The Beaver Scouts Greenieland Mural will be produced on Sunday June 5th and the Irish Girl Guides Greenieland Mural on Monday June 6th.
