May 27, 2011 - PRLog -- Aberdeenshire residents with learning disabilities will introduce a selection of canvas paintings at an inspirational exhibition to be launched on the 1st June at Aberdeen Arts Centre.

Include, Involve, Inspire consists of a selection of colourful and creative paintings which have been produced at a day service run by local charity, Inspire.  The team at Huntly Day Service use group art therapy as a means of helping the people supported there to reach their full potential and to improve communication skills.

“Include, Involve, Inspire consists of a wonderful selection of paintings interspersed with photographs of the inspirational individuals who have created them” says Fiona Poustie, Head of Business Development and Fundraising.  “The paintings are diverse and exciting, and we hope that those who view them will appreciate the wealth of talent that this group from Huntly possess.  We are delighted to announce that Provost of Aberdeenshire, William Howatson will officially open the exhibition on the 1st June”.

The exhibition will be available for viewing for one month in the Arts Centre, before moving into Union Square for a week on the 27th June.  It will then spend a full year moving around venues throughout the North East, before closing in June 2012 at the Bridge View Gallery.

“The exhibition will open and close in the same month as learning disability week” continues Fiona, “and this exhibition is about so much more than selling paintings.  It’s about raising awareness of the issues that people with learning disabilities face and about promoting tolerance and understanding.  At Inspire, we believe that the people we support should be actively encouraged to contribute to society and we believe that through these paintings we can demonstrate just what a valuable role they can occupy”.
