Follow on Google News | Using SharePoint as an Electronic Laboratory NotebookTina Spendler, Project Manager at Novozymes, talks to John Trigg, Director of phaseFour Informatics. She explains the background to Novozymes' decision to use SharePoint as the platform for their ELN.
By: IQPC T Spendler: Yes, I will do that. Thank you, John, for asking me to be part of this podcast. Yes, my name is Tina Spendler and I'm the Project Manager at Novozymes, where I work in an IT department in our research area. I have a background as a chemical engineer specialising in biochemistry. For several years, I managed projects across R&D, so I know a lot about the way that it works in research in Novozymes. Four years ago we started a large management programme which included the four different processes, where ELN was one of them. I was picked as project manager because I know the way that it works in Novozymes. So this is my background and the basis for the ELN project. I think that when we talk about our ELN project and the decisions that we made that it is important to bear in mind that the ELN is not a standalone solution. We also will have a project which is called the collaboration site, which provides the people with a SharePoint site where they can share information, department-wise and also on projects. We will also make a central database which contains all relevant and critical information regarding our enzymes. And also Novozymes is a biotechnological company, where we work with biomolecules.I think that our requirements are probably quite different from those of the chemical companies. J Trigg: Based on what you said, the choice of SharePoint, am I correct in interpreting the fact that you're effectively using SharePoint as a platform and that the ELN that you are working on is actually integrated into that platform?
