May 19, 2011 - PRLog -- If you’re seeking to improve the placing of your website in the Google rankings – an important part of improving your profits – then there is no more effective tool than the controlled use of search engine optimisation in an effective meta strategy.  However, we’re aware that sometimes search engine optimisation can seem intimidating or confusing if you’ve never been involved in it.  That’s why we’ve come up with this guide of the basic things that need to be done in order to help improve a website:

Create new and improved content.  Following on from the Google ‘Panda’ update, it has become more and more important for any website looking to improve their search engine optimisation standings to regularly update it with genuine and original content.  Whether it be an up to date news story, advice relating to your own expertise or simply some regular humour from your industry, taking the time to update your blogs at least once a week is a great way to improve your website’s reputation.  If you’re not confident in your ability as a writer, then any reputable SEO copywriter will be able to help you out.

Use the right keywords.  One of the main considerations in competing for even the most basic terms is to ensure that you pick those that will be initially easier to compete for.  Search engine optimisation is a long term strategy, and it’s important to build up slowly if you want to eventually compete at the very top levels.  Take the time to invest in a legitimate SEO company that will be able to help you integrate an effective meta strategy that will pick out the very best and most usable keywords to help you get your foot in the SEO door.

Utilise backlinks in the best way.  It’s important to ensure that you build the reputation of your website, so that Google sees it as a legitimate source of information that is to be valued.  One of the best ways of doing this is to increase the amount of other websites that link back to yours, which Google will usually consider as an indication that your site is to be considered a positive source of information.  However, it’s important to note that this is about quality, not quantity.  One hundred links from very low ranked sites won’t have the same link as one from the BBC page – however, obtaining a variety of different links from many different pages is always a useful strategy.

Make sure your headers are optimised in the most effective way.  Whilst on-page keywords don’t operate in the same way as they did a couple of years back (filling a page with keywords then would have gotten you a high ranking, now it will get you banned!), it is still important that the main headers on any page display the words from your meta strategy to ensure that Google is able to easily index the pages so that they are easily put into the rankings.
