The Vallejo Choral Society announces performances of Bach St. John Passion in Vallejo and San Francisco

May 18, 2011 - PRLog -- The Vallejo Choral Society presents Johann Sebastian Bach's St. John Passion.  VCS will be joined by members of the California Bach Society and St. John’s Choir, orchestra members from the Philarmonia Baroque and Vallejo Symphony, and a stellar roster of soloists, including Jonathan Smucker (the Evangelist), Trey Costerisan (Tenor), Estelle Mays (Alto), Claudia Berman (Soprano), Dean Ahlberg (Pilate), and Richard Mix (Bass).

This musical consortium will present two concerts.  One in Vallejo and  a second in San Francisco

The first concert will be performed at 7PM on Saturday, May 28, 2011, at the First Presbyterian Church located at 1350 Amador St. in Vallejo.  Tickets are $19 General Admission, $16 for seniors and students. Children aged 12 years and younger can enjoy the concert for free.  Tickets are available in advance by calling (707)751-0420.  This concert is hosted by the Vallejo Choral Society.

The second concert will be performed at 7PM on Saturday, June 4, 2011, at St. John's Presbyterian Church located at 25 Lake St. (at Arguello) in San Francisco. Tickets are $25 General Admission at the door, $20 in advance, $15 for seniors and students.  Children aged 12 years and younger can attend for  free.  Tickets are available in advance by calling 415-751-1626.  This concert is hosted by St. John's Presbyterian Church.

Tickets will also be available at the door at both venues.

VCS is proud to have such a distinguished group of singers, among them Trey Costerisan who was by praised by Joshua Kosman of the San Francisco Chronicle for his, “…fluid phrasing, lustrous tone and uncanny accuracy,” while performing with San Francisco Lyric Opera; and Richard Mix and Jonathan Smucker, who have sung with Pocket Opera, North Bay Opera, San Francisco Lyric Opera, Cinnabar Theater, and BASOTI. The Society will also have an accomplished group of orchestral musicians, including members of the Philarmonia Baroque and other early music groups from the Bay area. The performances will be led by Dr. Cyril Deaconoff, Artistic Director and Conductor of the VCS.

The mission of the Vallejo Choral Society is to encourage awareness, appreciation, and enjoyment of live choral music in the community through the performance of music of a high caliber while also working to increase the knowledge, improve the skills and enhance the lives of those who sing with us.  The Vallejo Choral Society is a secular, non-profit, community-based, mixed ensemble.  Founded in 1917 the Vallejo Choral Society is one of the oldest community choral organizations in the western United States.
