Solutions To Common Underfloor Heating Problems

Please see below for some fault finding advice and solutions to common problems that can occur in underfloor heating systems.

May 16, 2011 - PRLog -- If one room is cold, check that all the underfloor heating loops are working satisfactorily.

If this is the case, the heat demand for this room is higher than calculated.  Check if the ventilation supply temperature is too high and if the insulation of the room is sufficient.  If not, and the problem remains, open the return valve in steps of approximately 1/2 a turn.

If necessary, increase the supply water temperature to the underfloor heating loops and balance the underfloor heating loops.  Close the return valves of the rooms that are too warm in steps of approximately 1/2 a turn.

If the floors are cold although the room temperature is correct.  This means that there is another source of heating in the house.  If the heating system is a combination of underfloor heating,  and ventilation, check the temperature of the in-flow air.  It should be 2-3 degree C lower that the desired room temperature.

If the room temperature is heated by other heat sources, the room thermostats should be replaced by a manual valve handle on the underfloor heating manifold, instead of an actuator, to give flow through the underfloor heating loop in this room.

When the floor temperature is too high it means that the water temperature in the underfloor heating loop is too high.  One probable reason is that the spindle of the valve on the supply manifold is not tight.

Shut off the flow of the underfloor heating loop on the manifold.  This can be done by means of the manual valve handle or if the manifold is provided with an actuator by disconnecting the auxiliary voltage to the actuator.  Shut off the return valve as well.

Disconnect the retrun pipe of the underfloor heating loop.  If the supply valve is tight, no water will continue to come out of the pipe.
