May 10, 2011 - PRLog -- LOS ANGELES—The Switch has purchased two Alchemist Ph.C-HD motion compensated high definition standards converters from Snell.  The company plans to integrate the Alchemist converters as part of the 50-city expansion plan that The Switch announced at this year’s 2011 NAB show.

The Snell converters will enable The Switch to provide standards conversion in HD and SD formats as well as up, down and cross-conversion for customers across its new 10Gbps mesh network.  Alchemist Ph.C-HD has been recognized as having the best quality motion compensation technology as it is the only converter in the world to utilize Ph. C phase-correlated motion compensation. The Switch also uses the Snell Kudos Plus Mach1 M.Sc motion compensated standards converter for standard definition video.

“The Switch has gained its leadership position by consistently providing quality services to the North American broadcast market,” said Jonathan Goldstein, president, Snell Americas. “The company’s selection of the Alchemist Ph.C-HD for its newest transmission network will ensure that the premium content delivered by its customers maintains the highest possible visual quality and value.”

“Snell is the Emmy®-award winning world leader in standards conversion.  With customer applications ranging from Formula One to football, we believe the Alchemist Ph.C-HD will be a perfect match for our network, providing uncompressed 3G, HD-SDI, and SDI fiber transmission,” said David Anderson, Chief Technology Officer for The Switch.
