Box UK Releases Open Source Solution for Clean URLs

Box UK has recently released a new open source code library called Routing (http://www.boxuk.com/labs/box-uk-routing) that offers a comprehensive solution for clean URLs across your website, to provide benefits including improved SEO, more meaningful clicks and greater usability for both front and back end users.

Box UK upholds very strict coding standards, and the Routing library has been subject to rigorous peer review and unit test coverage before its launch. Routing also takes advantage of the most up to date version of PHP (the 5.3 branch), and includes namespacing for easy integration into other projects.

Permissively dual licensed under the GPL and MIT licenses. Routing is available through Box UK’s dedicated Github repository (https://github.com/boxuk/) along with thorough user documentation and code comments.

Open source software is central to Box UK’s development philosophy, with examples of its found right across the company, from open source operating systems to SqlYog. Box UK build on libraries such as jQuery and Zend Framework and are entirely committed to contributing back to the open source community.

The Routing launch is the third in Box UK’s series of open source projects following the release of the boxuk-di dependency injection solution and Obscura image thumbnailing library in March. The libraries were well received, with the DI library being featured on the highly respected PHP site PHPDeveloper.org, and both can also be accessed through the Box UK Github repository.

Box UK’s next release is planned for the coming months and is expected to  focus on extracting important information such as file size, predominant colour, bit rates and video length from media files.
