AEP Recognizes Pixton as a Leader in Educational Technology Innovation

May 3, 2011 - PRLog -- PARKSVILLE, BC, CANADA -- Pixton Comics, leading provider of online comic-making software, announced today that they’ve been selected as a 2011 AEP Golden Lamp Award Finalist for Technology Innovations, and the AEP Distinguished Achievement Award Finalist for Technology Websites. Winners will be announced at the AEP Awards Banquet & Gala, June 8 at the Omni Shoreham in Washington, DC. To view all of this year's finalists, go to http://www.AEPweb.org/awards/lampfinalists.htm.

The Golden Lamp Awards are the educational resource industry's top honor, recognizing the best overall tools for teaching and learning in four entry categories: Curriculum, Periodicals, Professional Development, and Technology Innovations. Golden Lamp finalists and winners are defined by their superior use of content, design, and fulfillment of the product's educational mission.

The Distinguished Achievement Awards (DAAs) are also broken down into four categories (Curriculum, Periodicals, Professional Development, and Technology), but they are further judged according to subject area and grade level. The DAAs are evaluated on traits such as efficacy, usability, and overall educational value.

For more than four decades, the AEP Awards have honored outstanding resources for teaching and learning in all media and for any educational setting. Award winners meet the highest standards for quality, professional content for education and represent the most innovative learning solutions currently on the market.

“It’s an outstanding honour for Pixton for Schools to be both Golden Lamp and DAA finalists. It validates the enthusiasm we encounter from educators around the world, that Pixton is not only a fun comic-making activity, it’s also a world-class visual writing tool that inspires creative learning in students at all levels,” said Clive Goodinson, co-Founder and President of Pixton Comics. “Students today want to express themselves in ways that are relevant to their lives outside the classroom, and teachers need to meet curriculum objectives. We’ve designed Pixton for Schools so that educators can inspire and engage students in digital storytelling activities, while fulfilling learning goals and conducting rigorous assessment.”

"Innovation takes many forms, from the next wave of education-based technology to the exemplars of tried and true formats or products," explained Eric Hamilton, 2011 AEP Awards Chair. "The submissions we received this year covered the entire spectrum, and we are very pleased to see that educational products are keeping up with the times."
