Banks Continue to Delay PPI Claims Despite Impending Judicial Review Judgement

Some banks are persisting in their efforts to freeze the handling of PPI claims disputes through their lack of cooperation with the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) despite the High Court being close to reaching a decision on the judicial review.

May 4, 2011 - PRLog -- Banks have been criticised for continuing to stall the process of dealing with customer complaints over the mis-selling of payment protection insurance (PPI). As well as rejecting PPI claims directly from customers themselves, reports earlier in the year indicated that some lenders were failing to provide the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) with sufficient information to conclude cases.
Having received 98,000 complaints so far this year and 43,000 flooding in the last three months; further delays are expected. In anticipation of the mounting workload, the FSA have increased funds to the FOS in an attempt to keep delays to a minimum. But with some banks placing PPI claims handling procedures on hold pending the outcome of the judicial review; anyone who complains today is likely to endure a 12-month delay before their claim is investigated.
The judicial review was launched by the British Banker’s Association in a response to the FSA’s new regulations on PPI claims handling procedures. Claiming it was unfair and illegal to apply new rules to policies that were sold in the past; some firms have continued to routinely reject complaints affected by the legal proceedings despite the judicial review’s outcome being expected shortly.
With 90% of complaints upheld in favour of policy holders, PPI Return http://www.ppireturn.co.uk is convinced that there are still substantial amounts to be claimed by other deserving parties.
