HKRep Council Chairman Dr. Wai-man Woo states, “Our Main Stage and Black Box productions, in addition to co-presentations last season, totalled 16 innovative and exciting productions. With 195 performances, we attracted 57,000 audience members into the theatre, representing a 10 percent growth from the previous season. We are delighted to see an average seating capacity of 82 percent.” On the actual lineup of the 34th season, HKRep Artistic Director Anthony Chan elaborates: “The HKRep has always presented high-quality, meaningful and exquisitely executed productions that are also entertaining. This season we’ll revive three classics bearing the HKRep imprint: a large-scale production of Boundless Movement celebrating the centenary of the 1911 Revolution, French comedy Le Dieu du carnage that recently received multiple Hong Kong Drama Awards nominations, and the well-loved and popular Broadway family show SCROOGE – the Musical. We also present three stylistically diverse new productions on the main stage: a world premiere work Reverie of an Empire that deepens our understanding of the 1911 Revolution and its aftermath, an adapted Japanese play entitled Shed Skin and the recent Broadway hit Rabbit Hole. On top of all this, we celebrate the inauguration of our refurbished Black Box Theatre, in which we nurture the creativity of our company members and newcomers. Our Black Box season includes three new plays by local talents, as well as three productions by our own company members. Along with an international collaboration and a work that’s been revived five times, the Black Box will provide an invaluable platform for talented professionals passionate about theatre and life.” Main Stage Productions - Revival of Le Dieu du carnage, nominee for multiple accolades at the 20th Hong Kong Drama Awards - Raymond To classic Boundless Movement returns with a new all-star cast as part of the 1911 centenary commemoration - Reverie of An Empire, a new work by Anthony Chan directed by Lee Ming Sum to commemorate the 1911 Revolution - A comedy that touches the heart by Tsukuda Norihiko, Shed Skin - SCROOGE – the Musical brings back holiday cheer this Christmas season - Rabbit Hole partners Fung Wai Hang and Louisa So + Poon Chan Leung: A beautiful ensemble that strikes the soul Black Box Productions With the inauguration of the HKRep’s own Black Box Theatre, an entire season lays ahead that lets creativity spark for playwrights, directors and actors alike. - Papa Mama, Thy Wind Blows Ever - The Gin Game - A Hollow Room - The Last Supper - The Heydays - Being Poon Chan Leung—Chanting in Silhouette - Desert the Dangling Cat - An Additional Black Box Production - Diving in the Moment Advance Booking with discounts up to 30% HKRep 2011/12 season tickets are available for “advance booking” from 24th March to 16th May 2011.
