Author Kaitlyn Gant Establishes the First
Phoenix PTSD Meetup Group

The group, which will meet for the first time on May 21, will be built on integrity, compassion and a code of ethics that will include respect for others’ privacy and their stories

April 26, 2011 - PRLog -- Each year, more than eight million people in the United States are diagnosed with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).  Those who suffer from PTSD — whether caused by war engagements, chronic abuse, natural disasters or witnessing terrifying events — silently struggle with feelings of hopelessness and despair.

To aid and support PTSD sufferers in Phoenix and the surrounding areas, local author Kaitlyn Gant (http://www.KaitlynGant.com) has organized the first-ever PTSD Meetup Group. The first meeting will be held on Saturday, May 21 in Cave Creek. Those who become members of the group will receive details on the meeting location upon joining.

Gant was inspired to organize the group after receiving numerous requests from others struggling with PTSD to bring fellow sufferers together, regardless of how they ended up with the disorder.  The suffering is the same for all, and treatment is typically the same as well. Gant gives a real-life account of what it’s like to live with PTSD in her book, Will You Listen? A True Story of Living with PTSD (http://kaitlyngant.com/About_The_Book.html).

Daniela F. of Scottsdale states that she is looking forward to the PTSD Meetup Group because so few people know what it is like to have PTSD. Daniela says, “I love Kaitlyn Gant’s work because she understands what it is like to suffer with PTSD, and she helps those of us who suffer from it to feel more normal and even helps us to laugh at ourselves.”

Wendy S. shares, “It is so good to read someone else describing my exact thoughts and issues so well. I am going on my third year of dealing with or being symptomatic. It has been long and hard. Kaitlyn has been the one lone voice in my life that says, “I get it. It’s ok!” For so long now, I have felt like such an anomaly. I am a voracious reader, and this is the first time I really feel connected and that someone is writing about me. It is good to know I am not alone.”

Gant envisions that the PTSD Meetup Group will be a team built on integrity, compassion and a code of ethics that will include respect for others’ privacy and their private stories. Members will find that everyone will be safe with one another, and everyone will listen.  The first meeting will take place on Saturday, May 21 in Cave Creek. Information on additional meetings will be posted on the PTSD Meetup Group’s website (http://www.meetup.com/The-Phoenix-and-Surrounding-Areas-M...).
