Dani Lawrence Runs the London Marathon for Anthony Nolan... Raising Awareness to Save Lives

April 18, 2011 - PRLog -- Dani Lawrence, partner of Liverpool footballer Brad Jones ran in yesterday’s London Marathon  (Sunday 17 April) in a time of 4hrs:51mins to raise funds for Anthony Nolan, the UK’s largest and most successful stem cell register. To date Dani has raised a total of £8,930 for the charity which has been dear to her heart since last year, when her step-son Luca was first diagnosed with Leukaemia.

It was sadly announced on the 10 April 2011 that Brad Jones’s son, Luca, has been re-diagnosed with Leukaemia.  Luca had a stem-cell transplant last September; the family hoped this would have been successful but sadly last February tests revealed that the acute myeloid leukaemia has re-appeared.  Luca will now need another transplant, which relies on finding matching bone marrow stem cells or blood.

Brad and Dani have done a significant amount to raise awareness of the Anthony Nolan cause and they really hope that their efforts will help to bring to peoples’ attention the need to register to help save lives; they are very passionate about this, according to Dani: “we’re urging people to come forward and get tested to see if they are a match, even if they are not a match.  Their details are kept on a world-wide network and could possibly save a life anywhere in the world.”

The London Marathon is the latest endeavour by Dani in her support of Anthony Nolan. Dani has spoken at a number of schools to raise knowledge and understanding of the disease and the work of Anthony Nolan; she has visited the Deputy Prime Ministers house to discuss her charity work and last year she also completed the Great North Run in a remarkable time of two hours and three minutes.

Dani has also been very supportive to other families and children who have suffered from and are still suffering from Leukaemia and is very close with the Wild’s, whose son Elliott Wild, recently died of the disease.  Dani was devastated to hear this news and it has only added to her drive to champion Anthony Nolan and all their work.
