D-Movement Encourages Suburbanites to Engage with Detroit

Grassroots effort seeks suburban resident / business / organization participation in driving economic and cultural impact on the Detroit community

March 25, 2011 - PRLog -- Detroit - when most people think of the city, they visualize the many negative connotations frequently associated with it.  The D-Movement, however, believes that Detroit is a jewel in the making and wants to play a role in the city's economic and cultural comeback.

The D-Movement is made up of representatives from many large and small organizations, businesses and individuals helping to once again make Detroit a metropolitan success story. The group believes we can assist in this effort by breaking thru the misconception that you have to live in Detroit to be part of the city and its resurgence; instead, we seek the engagement of the entire metro area in re-energizing Detroit for the benefit of the entire Southeast Michigan community.

As part of our effort to showcase the interesting and exciting things taking place in Detroit in which anyone can participate - Detroit resident or not, we're bringing our message to the suburbs in an event scheduled to take place on Tuesday, April 12th at 6:00 p.m. at the VisTaTech Center at Schoolcraft College in Livonia.  During this event, you will hear speakers representing various Detroit-based groups, enjoy entertainment by The Sugar People, network with various professionals and entrepreneurs, and take in art displayed by the Schoolcraft College CGT Department, with refreshments provided by students in Schoolcraft's Culinary Arts program.  All guests will be entered into a drawing for one of two gift cards to delectable Detroit venues. The event is free to attend for students registering in advance, and $5 for all others registering in advance.  Tickets are available at the door for $10. Advance registration is available on the group's website at http://dmovement.com
