Alcoholics Need Help, Not Jail?

It’s a controversial notion to some, but how should alcoholics be treated by society?

If an alcoholic does not have a habitual problem that results in injurious behavior, such as driving under the influence, are there not other options?

Arresthelp.net has been wondering about this, and as DWI legal specialists, Goldstein & Handwerker, LLP has also pondered the problem. They know there is, understandably, little sympathy for DWI drivers who cause accidents and inflict injury on innocent drivers. But they also know that there is an underlying problem that should be addressed.

During a time of severe government budget restraints in the United States, it makes sense to have a serious discussion about the New York DWI problem and to address constructive remedies. Of course, one of the best-known programs, Alcoholics Anonymous, has a solid track record of helping individuals in need. You can telephone Alcoholics Anonymous and you don't need to give a name but it is recommended that you ask them to send you information on their program. They won't bother you after that because they know the person phoning has to make up their own mind as to whether they are serious enough to quit drinking. AA has a great support group and the alcoholic has others in the same situation so they don't feel so alone.

There are many other alcoholism treatment programs available. Many offer programs for alcoholism treatment and drug dependency, and believe that addiction must be managed through education, cognitive restructuring, emotive therapies, and the experience of learning to live addiction-free.

Statistics indicate that drug abuse or drug addiction, the seemingly perpetual social issue, costs the United States more than $484 billion yearly, taking into account lost job wages, traffic accidents, crime, health care costs as well as criminal justice system costs. Needless to say, drug addiction and alcoholism play key roles in driving accidents, violence, stress and human rights abuse, ultimately destroying lives.

With the definitive goal of helping alcohol and drug dependents get back to their normal lives, professional rehabilitation programs have been created. An alcohol rehab center is expected draw on research, experience and community to raise the odds of treatment success.

When an alcoholic does get into legal trouble due to his or her behavior, Goldstein & Handwerker, LLP is prepared to bring an effective legal advocacy to the equation. Visit their website at http://www.arresthelp.net. They can also be called at 212-679-1330.
