Shiloh: Recent disasters not a sign of end times

The writer who knew and worked for the Nagasaki co-pilot says recent disasters like earthquakes and tsunamis don't signal any end times. And he's skeptical of that Mayan prophecy for 2012.

March 24, 2011 - PRLog -- ROCKFORD, Illinois - While the recent earthquake and resulting tsunami in Japan was a tragedy of epic proportions, a writer known for his own brand of dark fiction, believes they aren't part of any end times time line.

"Natural disasters like earthquakes and tsunami are part of the natural cycle on Earth," Doug Shiloh said. "What's changed is the availability of seeing these disastrous events in action, as they happen. People in the Year 1000 were sure they were about to witness the end of civilization."

Shiloh served as a PR liaison in the mid-1990s for Lt. Col. Fred J. Olivi, whose memoir DECISION AT NAGASAKI, detailed his part in the historic atomic bomb mission that ended World War II.

Shiloh is a former newspaper editor and author of POOKOO, a novel about celebrity obsession.

"We should be vigilant to man-made threats. We have the ability to alter history before it turns into something cataclysmic," Shiloh said. "One huge way is to work on peaceful ways of living. The violence in the Mideast concerns me. Certain situations in the United States do, too. Change is in the air, but we shouldn't lose our heads."

The Mayan prophecy of 2012, which is beginning to gain new attention, will get "blown out of proportion" the author said. He cites the Year 2000 "doomsday scenario" as one more example of Man trying to carve a tattoo on History.

Shiloh added, "In the 21st century, we like to plant a flag as the pioneers of pain, but we're not. If you look back at any decade, there has always been a challenge. We're not the first to experience war, a bad economy or natural disaster."

Shiloh is at work on a second novel about grief, which takes place in the 1930s through today. The PDF e-book of his first novel is available for the Kindle from Amazon.com. Visit http://www.dlshiloh.com to learn more about his work.
