March 22, 2011 - PRLog -- Job security is definitely the number one concern across the country during these difficult times.  Companies who have never had a lay-off before in their history now have to let employees go.  Here are some things you can do to increase your chances of keeping your job when the next round of pink slips is passed out.  Companies don’t want to lay-off employees, so the more you can do to help the bottom line, the less likely lay-offs become.
Let’s go beyond the obvious answers of arriving on time at your job, finishing all of your work in a timely manner, and not having confrontations with your boss or co-workers.  You need to take your performance to the next level.  Standing out in these tough times takes a little more than the usual level of performance.  Be a team player.  Take an interest in the bigger picture with what’s going on with your company.  Try to be part of the solution.  Remember, the more you contribute to the company’s bottom line, the more valuable you become.
For those of you who deal directly with the customers or clients, provide excellent customer service.  Dealing with customers as if you really care about their needs, and let’s face it you should, will have immediate and long term consequences.  First of all, happy customers will spread the word about the good experience they had with you and your company.  Secondly, they are more likely to come back and buy your product or service again.  Keeping your customers coming back for more will help increase your company’s profitability so they won’t have to lay-off any employees.
Follow your company’s rules.  Your company’s rules are contained in the Code of Ethics.  If you’ve never read it, do so immediately.  If you have read it, do it again.  If you have any questions about it, find the person responsible for answering your questions and get a satisfactory answer.  Not following the Code of Ethics could be grounds for termination.  You don’t want to give anyone an excuse to consider firing you, especially during these down times.  Following these few guidelines could mean the difference between getting the next pink slip and remaining employed.
