Entirely new design of Callaway FT-iZ Driver Review

March 20, 2011 - PRLog -- Callaway comes out with a driver that once again, pushes the technological barrier. This time, the Callaway FT-iZ driver takes its turn - voted the most innovative drivers of 2010', as indicated in February Golf Digest Equipment issue.  The FT-iZ looks more like Darth Vader's helmet than a driver.  Nevertheless, Callaway took the no holds barred approach once again to create one of the more sought-after drivers of 2010'.

The compression cured carbon fiber body that weights only 43.5 grams, with the majority its weight placed in the heel gives this driver a "made for distance" performance.  The strategically placed weight produces an extreme increase in ball speed which results in high performance and length off the tee.  A chemically milled process on the face vastly improves the precision of the variable thickness.

The Callaway FT-iZ comes in 9, 10, 11, and 13 lofts.  In addition the Tour model offers 8.5, 9.5, and 10.5 loft selection.

The Callaway FT-iZ features a Hyperbolic face for explosive and consistent distance of most of the club face. This "Cup Face" design is then fused to a woven carbon fiber body. Having the face welded to the body of the club not only provides a much larger sweet spot on the club face, but fused with the carbon fiber body gives an outstanding feel at impact and it seems like the balls just pop off the face with ease.

This club is well above average in distance, and it'ss off the charts in technological kitsch.  I have a couple of drivers at home that are longer than this one, but they were built specifically for maximum distance, and do not sport anywhere near the forgiveness of this club. The distance owes a lot not only to the super hot face, but also to the excellent choice of shafts. The head and shaft are very well mated for each other, and I will explore that further  in the "BALANCE" category. Let's just say that the shaft, the new technology, and the proper club weighting and length  play a huge part in netting this club very good distance.
