March 18, 2011 - PRLog -- Designed to be the most forgiving set of irons in Ping's range, the K15 irons can be combined with hybrids to make a combination set. A lightweight titanium face is combined with a stainless steel body and a wide sole to help launch the ball higher. The lightweight face is
the largest in Ping's range to provide plenty of forgiveness. The PING K15 irons will suit players who really struggle to get the ball airborne and/or those who have problems with their alignment.
By using this weight to widen the sole the K15 promotes a much higher ball flight even on those unfortunate mishits while also greatly enhancing the moment of inertia (MOI). Confirming completely with the revised R&A groove rules the Ping K15 golf irons feature a larger club head to improve forgiveness and deliver a complete game improvement club.
The K15 irons allow golfers to enjoy a consistent and high trajectory throughout the set with the inclusion of strengthened lofts while golfers can enjoy complete flexibility by choosing to replace the 5 and 6 irons with the 5 and 6 K15 hybrids to create an iron set that is comfortable enough to give you confidence on every shot.
Key Technologies: A lightweight titanium face insert moves 27 grams to the perimeter and sole to boost forgiveness. The broad sole lowers the center of gravity (for higher shots) while internal weighting stabilizes the club head through impact. It comes with the option of up to four hybrids.
PLAYABILITY: Cuts through the rough well and performs nicely from a variety of lies; gentle draws and fades are possible, but better suited for high, straight shots.
ACCURACY/FORGIVENESS: Very good spin correction across the face on mis-hits, particularly on potential slices; consistently straight on all types of contact.
DISTANCE CONTROL: Not overwhelmingly long, but length is consistent throughout the set.
FEEL: Provides subtle feedback on mis-hits but is never unpleasant; crisp sensation when struck in the middle of the face; outstanding stability on all shots.
LOOK: At address, the sizable back cavity and large sole are well hidden; classic Ping style that many testers like.
These clubs are extremely forgiving. They do sport a rather hefty amount of offset--.23 in the 5 Iron and .10 in the Lob Wedge. This definitely takes the slice out of the equation if you can get close to swinging on plane. It also makes workability a bit of a joke, but "Workability" and "Super Game Improvement Club" do not even belong in the same sentence together, much less the same golf game. If you want high long and straight--these clubs offer it in great abundance.
Even though I'm not a huge fan of the hybrids in this set, I think they are much more than adequate for the task at hand. The irons are very nice indeed, and hit wonderfully. Now if you are a beginner or a chronic slicer you will love the hybrids in this set. They just run with a little too much offset for my personal taste, and that can lead to some nasty pull-hooks for a converted lefty like me. These irons are exceptionally well built, as long as anything else out there, and for once--Ping is giving Adams a real run for their money in the Forgiveness department, while beating them in the distance game.
