Silent Lapse single "A New Melody" takes you through a journey of longing, anger and love

Silent Lapse was formed in 2007 by brothers Mitchell and Taylor Feldpausch.  Initial band members were the Feldpausch brothers along with Scott Martin (vocals/keyboard) and Matt Schrauben (bass).  Another guitarist was needed to play the music that was being created.  The band welcomed in guitarist Wyatt Aldrich to complete the lineup.  

In 2009 Silent Lapse released their first album, a concept work entirely produced and recorded by the band.  It was mixed and mastered by Jens Bogren (Opeth, Soilwork, Katatonia) with the finale “Birthright” serving as the album’s title track.

The lead single off of Birthright is called “A New Melody”.  The title of this song refers to a mother’s name, Melody.  In the tale she is a protector and comforter through her son’s troubled childhood.  After her death, the son feels a need to provide the same protection and comfort to another person by shielding him from the ugliness of the world that he experienced as a child.  He builds a machine to house a person and puts him in a shielded pseudo-reality.  He named the machine Melody, after his mother.  

“A New Melody” has a melancholy introduction that segues into a dramatic and emotional guitar performance.  The emotions the listener feels travel through the arrangement of this song.   It’s a cry out for Melody with sorrow, longing and anger – and the music takes the listener there completely - right through to the last note.  It is played with depth and emotion.   The vocals and harmonies are dramatic and tell the tale as it should be told.   It is similar to a miniature opera, beautifully orchestrated and delivered and is a clear indicator as to the talent, depth and ability that these individuals have.  

Some of Silent Lapse’s accomplishments are:
•   Remained in the top 90% of bands in their genre since being on Jango and were ranked 8th in overall appeal among all the unsigned bands for the week of November 21, 2010.  
•   Played numerous shows and venues around the Michigan area with highlights including opening for Katatonia and Taproot; and playing in Detroit at the infamous Emerald Theater.  
•   Opened for other artists such as, Swallow the Sun, Orphaned Land, Pop Evil and Richy Nix.  
•   Given multiple radio interviews in 88.9 The Impact, Michigan State University.  
•   Birthright was called ‘Album of the year’ in a Rockline, Poland review.  
•   Organized cancer benefit show at The Loft in Lansing, Michigan and played benefit concerts at the Emerald Theatre in Detroit, Michigan and around the State.
•   Music video for “The Wake” is currently in pre-production
