Feb. 24, 2011 - PRLog -- [link=http://mesothelioma.legalview.com/]Mesothelioma cancer[/link] located at http://mesothelioma.legalview.com/ is a deadly form of cancer and currently has no cure. For years, scientists have been trying to develop more effective treatments and find a cure. Despite lack of funding, experts are still trying to find a cure by continuing their research. However, adequate funding needs to be secured before researchers can ensure future progress.

Further research is necessary. Unfortunately, one source of funding from the United Kingdom failed to follow-through in 2010 by investing money into research by creating a National Centre for Asbestos Related Diseases (NCARD).

According to Simon Burns, the health minister of the United Kingdom, the National Institute for Health Research and the Medical Research Council is still accepting funding applications. However, no mention was made of the NCARD or the government's promise that was made to help create the organization.

While advocates for the disease continue to secure funding, patients have the option to participate in clinical trials that test new drugs and procedures that may help fight the disease. Patients should consult their physicians about joining a possible clinical trial.

Continuing to study the disease and applying findings to treatment has increased the survival rate of patients in recent years. For example, in 2022, nine percent of patients survived for five years after the initial diagnosis of mesothelioma was given. Furthermore, only a small percentage of patients survived a year in the 1990s, but now about 40 percent of patients survived a year or more in the United States.

The primary cause of malignant mesothelioma is exposure to asbestos. It is estimated that the disease claims between 2,000 and 3,000 lives in the United States each year alone. Those who are diagnosed with Stage II or higher are only given about one year to live as the disease is very aggressive.

Many times, symptoms of mesothelioma are mis-diagnosed as pneumonia or other health problems. Also, in some cases the disease may not manifest itself for up to 30 years after asbestos exposure. By the time the disease is finally diagnosed correctly, it can be too late.
