PRLog -- February 7th, 2010: Representative Barbara Lee will announce the re-introduction of HR-6556 – Emergency Unemployment Compensation Act on February 9th, 2010 at 9:45 am, in Room HVC-200 of the Capitol Visitors Center in Washington D.C. The bill known as HR-6556 would add 14 weeks to Tier I of federal extended unemployment benefits and make the extra weeks available retroactively to people who have exhausted all their benefits and are still unemployed. The bill is critical for those exhaustees, still unemployed, now counted among the 43% of Americans classified as, "living in poverty". With a slow economic recovery, and jobs scarce, this bill would provide a lifeline for those still looking for work. The group of people who have exhausted their unemployment benefits refer to themselves as 99ers, as 99 weeks is the maximum amount of benefits that a person can receive. Additionally, Representative Jesse Jackson (D, IL) has put a call out for the unemployed to submit their resumes by emailing them to resumesforAmerica@
mail.house.gov. Resumes that are received will be put into the Congressional record. According to Rep. Jackson, the call for resumes "is a reminder to government that they need to help put Americans back to work". The 99ers Twitter Action Committee is an advocacy group committed to educating and promoting awareness of the plight of the 99ers.
