Dec. 16, 2010 - PRLog -- Teresa Valentine has decided to get back into her practice of Tai Chi. Her  reason’s are the same as most people: to look and feel better. But, she's exercising for more. She wants to seek serenity.

Teresa's practice of Tai Chi began in the early 1990’s.  Her  mom noticed the interest she was taking in a martial arts class  her second semester of college. So, she got her a Tai Chi video. (By the way, she uses the same video and instructor to this day. Except, now it’s a dvd and not VHS tape).

There are three parts to the Tai Chi Yang Long Form exercise. Teresa got through the first two sections of the exercise then stalled. Teresa practiced those two sections of Tai Chi for many years. She said  "I felt great after the exercise, low stress and great mental focus. But, you can figure out what happened..over time my practice became less and less. This year, I decided  to get back into the Tai Chi exercise for the peace it gives me. Plus, I want to complete the third and advanced sections of the exercise". http://www.mypracticetaichi.net/

Tai Chi is a martial art. But not like karate where there are kicks and strikes. These are slow circular movements. Through the slow thoughtful course of movements you are meditating.

The **Chi** in Tai Chi is energy that is circulating through your body as you perform the exercise. The way Teresa feels during and after the exercise is more  refreshed and focused.  A big part of being refreshed and focused is in deep breathing from your belly. While you are taking deep breaths you are quieting your mind and relaxing your body. Teresa says her state of mind when completing the movements is peaceful.

Also, there's the principle of Yin and Yang. Yin and Yang are a balance of opposites. What you gain is a separation of what’s important to what’s not important. (If procrastinating are a problem this could help you)  Teresa thinks  this way: "Yin would be the moments I need to be still/quiet and Yang are the moments when I need to get moving."

Teresa has also started learning  QiGong which involves more meditation and  combines stillness/slower movements with deep breathing. With the deep breathing  you get a  strong sense of vitality or spirit. http://www.mypracticetaichi.net/tai-chi-qigong

So, Teresa is seeking a balance and believes her practice of Tai Chi  QiGong will help her to have serenity and better discipline. Her hope through this website is to help other people who may want to balance out their lives and improve their sense of serenity, discipline, and energy.
