Land Rover of Naples announces the preview of the 2011 compact Evoque

Nov. 24, 2010 - PRLog -- The five-door, remarked Land Rover of Naples Sales Manager Joe Parisi, "extends the appeal" of the crossover-style Range Rover Evoque by offering more flexibility and interior space than the coupe. However, it sits on the same footprint, without any increase in overall width or length — although it's 1.8 inches taller.
The five-door Evoque has the same 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine as the coupe, making 240 horsepower and getting the vehicle from zero to 60 mph in 7.1 seconds. It also offers electric power-assisted steering, adaptive dynamics with MagneRide dampers and — since it is a Land Rover after all — the company's off-roading Terrain Response system.
The interior is available with twin-needle-stitched premium leather on the instrument panel, doors and seats. A full-size panoramic glass roof adds to headroom and there's a touchscreen display, audio streaming and Bluetooth connectivity. The audio system is a 17-speaker Meridian setup that puts out 825 watts of power, debuting in a Range Rover vehicle.
Land Rover of Naples will offer the Range Rover Evoque five-doorin three design styles: the neutral Pure, the luxurious Prestige and the more brightly colored Dynamic. Deliveries to U.S. customers start in the fall of 2011, with prices starting at $45,000.
Unsurprisingly, the production model looks--at least on the outside--almost exactly like the LRX concept. Obvious differences include larger wing mirrors and usable door handles. In the photograph, the Evoque reads "big." There are large wheels and Range Rover proportions, but with modern design cues, such as the sloping roof, and futuristic details that make this Range Rover look more akin to a Mars Rover than a car. However, take a look at the still photo from the vehicle's debut and the small scale of the crossover is brought into sharper focus.
Like any vehicle bearing the Range Rover badge, the Evoque will be available with four-wheel drive, but there will also be a two-wheel drive variant. Whether those driving wheels are on the front or rear axle remains to be seen, but we're guessing front. With Land Rover placing heavy emphasis on the lightness, fuel efficiency, and low emissions, we're also guessing that whatever engine supplies the torque to those wheels won't be a fire breather either. Then again, we can always hope for a high-performance Evoque Sport.
