Oct. 26, 2010 - PRLog -- Stylists and Beauty Specialists Set Up Shop in Cary's Saltbox Village

What do business owners do when times get tough? If they're smart and a little adventurous, they look outside the box. That's what business owners at Sola Salons (http://www.solasalonstudios.com/index.php/homepage) in Cary have done.

Located in Saltbox Village at 1269 Kildaire Farm Rd., Sola Salons accommodates stylists, nail technicians, a massage therapist and a skin care specialist, and is operating with a new twist on an old business model. The company will host a grand opening ribbon-cutting Mon., Nov. 1 at noon, followed by an open house until 7 p.m. to share this concept with the community.

The old business model consists of booth rental, where service providers rent semi-private space from a salon owner that sometimes includes use of a receptionist and other amenities, depending on what the business owner offers. This can be profitable for the stylist but frustrating for the owner, since everyone is independent. It can also set up a confusing and often competitive atmosphere.

How Sola Salons is Different

What makes Sola Salons different is each tenant is a business owner who rents a suite. Suites feature soundproof doors that block out the rest of the world so clients get the undivided attention they deserve, as well as an upscale interior with free wireless Internet and comfortable seating for clients who are waiting.

For the business owner, the benefit of pooling resources offers limitless possibility. Rent includes maintenance and cleaning of common areas, utilities, a security system, and a common break area with a kitchen, washers and dryers. Each studio offers continuity in furniture, but business owners can create the atmosphere they work best in. Suite design ranges from red walls with zebra carpet, to soothing earth tones and relaxing music.

"Everyone's individuality can shine here, and we refer clients to each other so, it's a win-win situation" says Martha Wright of Luxor Nail Bar.

"Sharing expenses and being able to work around such a professional group of people makes it fun to come to work again," says Cheri' Kinney, owner of Hair by Cheri' (http://hairbodyandsolespa.com/), formerly Hair, Body and Sole Salon and Spa of Apex.

"Not having to worry about the details of setting everything up greatly decreases the stress of owning a business," says Colleen Canfield of Massage by Colleen.

Proven Track Record

This model boasts a proven track record at two locations in Charlotte, N.C., which have been up and running successfully for the last two years. Terry Tyree, owner of the franchise rights for Sola Salons in the Southeast, says his goal is to "make life easier and more profitable for the best of the best stylists." Tyree, whose mother was a hairdresser, has experienced the challenges of running a hair styling business firsthand and wants to make a difference in the industry.

If you've lost track of your favorite stylist or service provider, he or she may have relocated to Sola Salons.
