Playground Equipment Installation Reduces Childhood Obesity - FACT!

Oct. 21, 2010 - PRLog -- The First Ever £3million Playground/Sport Based Obesity Intervention Research Report. South West Essex PCT commissioned ESP (Education and Special Projects Ltd, based in Burnley, Lancashire) to increase levels of physical activity of 30,000 children.

ESP installed unique playground markings and playground equipment in 164 schools across the borough and supported the installations with a CPD training programme. Major Research Findings are as follows:

* Overall levels of physical activity increased by 14.6%. Twelve months later the number is STILL increasing.
* In terms of public spending, the prevention of childhood obesity versus cure in later life will save the NHS billions. We are expecting each and every PCT (Primary Care Trust) within the NHS to take this intervention on board and include all schools from their area.
