The Winter Blues, Elvis, The Literary Road Show & Grief

Some thing don't change - and that's good. In January 2011, Doug Shiloh releases an mp3 of his short story "The Second Coming", he co-founded a reading group that's making its way to the web and Comcast, and he's wrapping up his second novel.

Jan. 30, 2011 - PRLog -- ROCKFORD, Illinois - The East Coast of the United States may be getting hammered with heavy snow after heavy snow this winter, but it's "winter-as-usual" in Northern Illinois. The area just lived through the Chicago Bears-Green Bay Packers rivalry and talk is building of a winter that's been enough. The same goes for writer Doug Shiloh, who's looking to warm weather because that's when he expects to wrap up his new novel titled "Waiting for the End."

"I started it in May 2009," Shiloh said. "It's a book of grief and I'm ready to move on. It's been a very cathartic experience. But let's get to the warm weather of the soul."

As a boost to those coming days, Shiloh formed a new group with editor Craig Wyatt and poet Charlie Worboys called The Literary Road Show, for writers and readers and those who love literature and good conversation. It's now hosted at the famed Olympic Tavern in Rockford, Illinois. The events will be recorded and broadcast on Comcast TV, as well as on YouTube.

"I've been in a bunker for 20 months, working on this book," Shiloh said from his home office. "You live in a work, do the time, and hope it pays off for the reader."

He will be looking for an agent to handle both of his novels.

Along with forming The Literary Road Show, Shiloh just released his mp3 reading of "The Second Coming", a short story about Elvis Presley's return. Stockyard Magazine published in last year and they termed it "an Armageddon parable."

The short story is homage to the rock and roll legend, despite its violence. Shiloh is an avid Elvis Presley fan (he married his wife in Las Vegas on Elvis' birthday, no less).

"My heroes were people who made an impact, true icons who stood out," Shiloh said. "This story looks at the back end of fame."

So does his novel "Pookoo", about celebrity obsession. A famed track and field Olympian who gains second fame. "People have seen the parallel to Tiger Woods' situation, but he wasn't the first star to fall from grace."

Over 3,500 people have downloaded the novel so far.
