Oct. 18, 2010 - PRLog -- Phoenix, AZ - Utility and government investment in smart grid demonstration projects is showing questionable results, according to a new report “Smart Grid Demonstration Projects and Utility Programs” released by Energy Business Reports. The report examines utility and government investment in smart grid demonstrations. This report details 24 smart grid demonstration projects, profiles 54 utilities deploying the smart grid, and provides details on 99 utility company programs with installed meters, (AMI, AMR or Smart Grid) and number installed.  It includes particulars of 100 ARRA-Funded Smart Grid projects.

Worldwide investment on new T&D equipment and services will surpass $107 billion in 2010, according to a report from Visiongain, and government-funded initiatives are leading the way. For example, in August 2010, the DOE announced that a Penn State University research group will receive up to $122 million over the next five years from the Department of Energy to develop an "energy innovation hub,” that will research, develop and demonstrate more energy efficient building components at the 200+ building Philadelphia Navy Yard Clean Energy campus.

The power transmission and distribution system is being transformed by the smart grid, and utilities and technology providers are scrambling to demonstrate the effectiveness of their products and services. The power industry, trailing behind other sectors already revolutionized by computerization is seeing an increase of smart grid demonstrations.

In this report, Smart Grid Demonstration Projects and Utility Programs, you’ll learn details about upcoming smart grid case studies funded by the government and industry.
