Oct. 7, 2010 - PRLog -- Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage in Palm Desert hosted its annual American Cancer Society Relay For Life event Oct.2-3 at the Palm Desert Civic Center Park. Walking under the team name, “On The Move,” Coldwell Banker agents, friends and family celebrated the lives of those who have battled cancer and supported the cause in the 24-hour walk.

Beginning 9:00 a.m. Saturday morning, this year’s Relay brought together more than 2,500 participants to fight back against this deadly disease. Leading the walk last weekend were more than 30 Coldwell Banker agents – 13 of them whom are survivors – who joined together to empower individuals and communities to fight back against the disease. Also joining Coldwell Banker agents in this fight was cancer survivor Rick Jenkins, Coldwell Banker’s regional vice president.

“My first Relay as a participant was only an hour after being released from the hospital after my lung was removed,” said Jenkins. “It means so much to be able to participate in the celebration, support the people still in the fight and remember the ones that has lost the fight. I want to thank everyone who participated in the Relay last weekend for their continuing support.”

This year’s Relay could not have been possible without the leadership of Coldwell Banker sales agents Sue Sheehan and Alan Abell, who served as co-chairs of the Palm Desert Relay event. Under their direction, Sheehan, Abell and Coldwell Banker put on yet another successful event, attracting over 55 teams to participate. By participating in the relay, Coldwell Banker ensures that those who have lost their lives to cancer will never be forgotten, those who face cancer will be supported and that one day cancer will be eliminated.

“It’s events like this, held around the country that will help to one day find the cure,” said Patti Rollins, branch manager of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage in Palm Desert. “Coldwell Banker continues to support the community with participation in events such as this and we all appreciate the efforts our co-chairpersons Sue Sheehan and Alan Abell who step up every year to lead the charge.”

This is an event that must continue. If for no other reason, the newly diagnosed can be with us and not feel so alone. Today, the American Cancer Society Relay For Life has grown to include more than 3.5 million people in 5,000 communities in the United States and communities in 20 other countries coming together to raise awareness and funds to save lives from cancer.
