The 2nd Annual Kingdom Choice Awards Honors Hip Hop Trailblazers

Oct. 5, 2010 - PRLog -- (New York) Kurtis Blow, one of the founders and creators of recorded rap, stands as an emerging leader in a new generation of rappers with street sense, social criticism, and commercial savvy.  Kurtis Blow has been instrumental in raising up a generation of MCs .  He was honored in helping to coordinate King Holiday, along with Dexter Scott King, to commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday with the collaboration of other artists, which has now become a holiday classic. He helped legitimize Hip-Hop, and now intends to help redeem it. Now a devout Christian, he is the co-founder of the Hip-Hop Church where he serves as rapper, DJ, and worship leader. The 2nd Annual Kingdom Choice Awards will present its Living Legend Award to Kurtis Blow for his efforts in helping to legitimize Hip-Hop. Kurtis Blow says, “I am very excited to receive The Living Legend Award at the 2nd Annual Kingdom Choice Awards 2010. It’s an example of the longevity of the art form. I am looking forward to being part of The 2nd Annual Kingdom Choice Awards. ”

Mike Peace, considered the “Grandfather of Christian Hip-Hop”, started ministering through Hip-Hop in 1985 and had several hit albums release by Reunion and Star Song Records. He   received countless awards for his community activism, including the “African-American of Distinction” award in 1994 from then New York Governor Mario Cuomo.  In 1995, Peace stopped touring in order to concentrate on a mentoring at-risk youth in his hometown of Rochester.  The 2nd Annual Kingdom Choice Awards will present its Holy Hip-Hop Pioneer Award to Mike Peace for his efforts in bringing Christian Hip-Hop to the forefront. Mike Peace says, “I feel blessed and honored to receive such an honor from the Kingdom Choice Awards. I don't usually think about the contributions that I've made to holy hip over the 20 plus years and it feels good to know that there are people who acknowledge it even more than I do".

The 2nd Annual Kingdom Choice Awards 2010 will take place on Saturday October 30th, 2010 at The Kumble Performing Arts Theater at Long Island University’s Brooklyn Campus located in Brooklyn, New York.  The Kingdom Choice Awards honors the best in urban Christian music over sixteen categories including Best Rap Album, Best Video, Best Male and Female Urban Singer as well as other categories including Best Mixtape, Best DJ, and the public voting category of “The People’s Minister”.  Live performances for the night include Japhia Life, R-Swift, Guage, Hessun Lee, TJ DaPrayingMan, and many others.  The event is the brainchild of Kingdom Time Entertainment and its CEO, Marcus Hall.
