Joblessness a Huge Concern to Returning Serviceman, Many Turn to Self Employment

The US Department of Labor indicates that 1 in 5 returning US troops may find unemployment waiting for them upon their return from deployment. The Los AngelesTimes reported joblessness for veterans 18 to 24 has risen to 21.1% from 16.6% last year.

Sept. 17, 2010 - PRLog -- As the families of U.S. Troops anxiously anticipate the safe return of their loved ones after President Barack Obama declared the end of the “combat phase” of the Iraq war, they are also anticipating what it will mean to them if Congress decides it can no longer justify the payroll of an inflated military staff.

While saying he is “mindful of the difficult economic and fiscal situation facing our nation,”  Defense Secretary Robert Gates, has demanded that the military cut $100 billion of "overhead'' over the next five years, in an effort to avoid even deeper cuts by Congress.

Historically Congress has been slow to reduce troop pay and benefits, especially with an election year quickly approaching; however the outcry to cut deficit spending is beginning to force a move.  With an extra 95,000 ground forces enlisted in the Army and Marine Corp after 9/11, cutting the cost of maintaining such a huge rank would create real savings.

"The budgetary and political tornado is well on its way,'' said Gordon Adams, professor of international relations at the American University and a former White House national security budget director.

Cuts in “force structure” would mean that some who plan to make the military a career might not have that option.  After the Cold War was over, the Pentagon and Congress cut the active-duty armed forces to 1.4 million from 2.2 Million, leading to a decline in defense spending of more than one third.  But it also meant that many service members were involuntarily separated- i.e., fired---David Wood USA Today

Finding a new career path may not be easy for many of our returning troops who find themselves casualties of budget cuts, even for the youngest of soldiers.  A lack of higher education, job experience and little job training prior to entering the service, in addition to physical and mental health problems will put many veterans resumes at the bottom of the stack.

Some veterans are finding their military training in organization, self motivation and determination offers them a special skill set to become entrepreneurs.  American Consumer Financial Network, (ACFN) boasts 16% of its franchisees are veterans.  “We have found veterans to be an excellent fit with our business and are investing in veteran specific advertising in conjunction with special discounts to attract more veterans to our franchise,” said Jeff Kerr, President and founder of ACFN.

“ ACFN's ATM franchise allows veterans to skip the start up process, equipping them with the tools and the know how to manage their business". Avi Blankroth, Executive Vice President of ACFN says. "The process begins with each franchisee purchasing one ATM, while ACFN locates and contracts a lucrative placement location"

ACFN furnishes their franchisees with high traffic locations through the use of a state of the art technology. Once a location is identified, ACFN handles all the legal heavy lifting, even adding a clause that states if profits aren’t acceptable, business can and will be taken elsewhere. A guarantee that solid is impossible with other brick and mortar business franchises, but the ACFN difference offers unparalleled protection.

For a starting price of $25,000, anyone can purchase the tools necessary to start their own network of working ACFN ATMs. The package includes marketing and sales assistance, and an award winning customer service that guides franchisees through the ATM servicing process one step at a time.

Even Jeff Kerr has operated his own network of ATMs for more than a decade. He comments, “My personal experience from owning and operating a network of ATMs has been very valuable. I know the many benefits that can be achieved and have done the work required to secure them. The Return on Investment (ROI) ATM's generate is the highest I have seen in my 24 years of business ownership.

When you add to that the transparency provided by our franchise documents, ACFN offers an attractive path to join the ranks of entrepreneurs”.

The ACFN system requires no more than a few hours a week. With over 1,300 locations across North America, and more than 160 happy franchisees, ACFN is the right opportunity at the right time.

The company can also provide a comprehensive training program at their headquarters in San Jose, California and the best ongoing customer service that can only be described as second to none
