Sept. 15, 2010 - PRLog -- Austin, Texas (September 15, 2010)— IE Discovery, a leading provider of comprehensive Discovery Management solutions to the legal community, today announced that Terry Sweeney, the company’s Platform Manager, will be presenting at LIT-Con 2010 in San Francisco on November 6, 2010. LIT-Con is jointly produced by the International Legal Technology Association and ARMA International, a not-for-profit professional association and the authority on managing paper and electronic records and information. The session is titled “Differences in How Records Managers and Lawyers Use Search Technology.”

“Records managers and lawyers have very different missions and employ their tools in significantly different ways to meet their particular needs,” said Sweeney. “We’ve designed this session to help Records Information Management professionals understand how they can help lawyers leverage search technology to meet common needs and solve the problems they face in complex discovery.” The presentation will also provide RIM professionals with a fundamental, non-legal, non-tech-speak understanding about how different search technologies actually work and identify the strengths and weaknesses of each technology. RIM professionals will leave the session better able assist counsel in electronic discovery.  Terry will be joined for this session by Maura R. Grossman, Counsel at Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz and Co-Coordinator of the 2010 TREC Legal Track.

Specific topics to be covered will include:
   The current status of search and retrieval in electronic discovery
   An overview of search fundamentals
   Keyword v. Boolean v. “Concept” searching
   Types of “Concept” search engines and their pros and cons in litigation
   Best practices for applying search in electronic discovery
   The growing role of the RIM professional in electronic discovery
   Current research findings from the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s Text REtrieval Conference (TREC) Legal Track

LIT-Con is being held November 6-7, 2010 at Moscone Center West in San Francisco, prior to ARMA International’s 55th Annual Conference & Expo. Please visit http://www.arma.org/LitCon/2010/SanFrancisco.aspx for more information.
