Sept. 5, 2010 - PRLog -- As any martial artist will tell you, there are multiple benefits in martial arts training. Of course, the most obvious benefit is a knowledge of self defense which is one of the major reasons why systems were developed in the first place. Knowing how to defend oneself and loved ones in a potentially dangerous situation is an asset in today's world just as it was hundreds of years ago.

Most people will also improve their flexibility significantly while training since entire ranges of motion from the body are exercised.

Unlike many other forms of physical activity, martial arts also have a mental and sometimes spiritual element which not only improves the mind's focus but also helps in self control. Emotions such as anger and fear are better controlled through training.

The mind-body connection of karate merges the physical, the mental, the emotional, and the spiritual into an overall way of life -- where a person lives in a state of mindful awareness. A person living this way stays alert to what occurs around him while also accepting what happens in life with trust and serenity.

Reaching this level of peace makes the physical and mental efforts of martial arts worthwhile and meaningful; even further, it connects a person more deeply to his or her spiritual beliefs.

Essentially, engaging in martial arts grounds a person body, mind, heart, and soul. This mind-body-spiritual connection helps karate students move toward achieving physical fitness, mental peace, and spiritual fulfillment.
