Laminate flooring is a multi-layer synthetic flooring material that is made to appear identical to hardwood or stone. First developed in 1977, laminate flooring made its way to the United States in the mid-1990s and as been popular ever since. Some of the advantages of laminate flooring is that it is much more durable than carpet or other synthetic flooring and it is offered at a much lower price than natural wood and stone flooring materials.
Laminates come in a variety of thicknesses and are available in either commercial grade High Density Fiberboard or the more cost-effective, decorative Low Density Fiberboard.
