Sani Festival 2010 - Summer Sun Filled With Arts, Culture & Music

Aug. 9, 2010 - PRLog -- The festival, that has been a yearly event since 1993, brings nationally and internationally acclaimed artists to perform at the luxury resort in Greece, whose stunning shores provide a picturesque backdrop to this remarkable music gala.

Sani festival sees a fascinating array of exhibitions, music concerts and dance performances take place at this luxury resort in Halkidiki, playing host to distinguished artists from a variety of fields including Jazz, Classical, Pop and World music and after the success of last years new film element, Music on Film vs. Film on Music Sani Festival is pleased to announce its return to this years line up.

Every year the Sani festival comes up with something new, something to push the boundaries of guest musical experience making the festival even more memorable. This year the festival supports the European jazz scene, paying special tribute to award winning German label ACT. Alongside this many internationally renowned musicians will be playing at this year’s event, including: the talented Swedish funk and jazz trombone player Nils Landgren Funk Unit, Russian jazz singer Viktoria Tolstoy (Viktoria is also a descendent of the famous Russian writer L.Tolstoy), celebrated Brazilian singer and songwriter Céu, who is hailed as the ‘future of Brazilian pop music’ and South Korean jazz singer Youn Sun Nah.

The festival highlights four different genres of music:
Jazz on the Hill, tribute to ACT and its musicians (16 -18 July) is set on top of the Sani Hill in a natural amphitheatre over looking the Aegean Sea. Guests can take in the event from a medieval watch tower which provides a magical setting under the stars. This year Jazz on the Hill pays tribute to ACT, one of the main German record labels of the 1990’s. The founder of ACT, Siggi Loch wanted to carve out a new path in jazz recording. The label has produced two hundred albums and featured some of the best known names in the world of jazz. Loch’s success has been a source of listening pleasure for millions of jazz lovers the world over.

Sounds of the World (23-25 July) launched in 2006, Sounds of The World is back for a fifth year due to high demand. This year, Sounds of the World is dedicated to recent musical developments in Spain, Portugal and Brazil – the latter much influenced by the countries of the Iberian Peninsula. The Grammy winning singer and chart success Céu will be performing as a highlight of the festival.

Music on Film vs Film On Music – Taking place on both Sani Hill and in Cine Orpheas, Music on Film vs. Film on Music was launched in 2009 and this year is dedicated to the great English director Peter Greenaway. Peter will also be making an appearance at the festival between the 30th, 31st July and 1st August.

Greek concerts featuring the famous Greek composers Panagiotis Kalatzopoulos and Evanthia Reboutsika (composer of the film Politiki Kouzina staring Yiorgos Horafas) on the 7th of August and on the 14th of August, the famous Greek singer Haris Alexiou will perform at the Sani Hill.

Classical Sani (21 August - 4 September) – passionate classical music played in the open-air Cine Orpheas at the heart of the luxury Greek resort.
