Take Full Advantage of the Digital Millenium Copyright Act with Opolis

Opolis is currently the only established secure email provider optimally protecting copyrights according to the Digital Millenium Copyright Act.

Aug. 5, 2010 - PRLog -- In 1998, the Digital Millenium Copyright Act became effective in the United States. In principle, it aims to protect copyrights and criminalizes tools to circumvent copyrights. This also includes the act of circumventing an access control, whether or not there is actual infringement of copyright itself. – In 2001 the Copyright Directive was also adopted in the European Union which is broadly of similar content as the Digital Millenium Copyright Act.

In both regulations the liability of the providers of on-line services for copyright infringement by their users is limited. Therefore, it is still very much up to the original owner of copyrights to ensure that documents including such rights are optimally protected, especially when sent electronically.

Standard email services do not help much in that context: Once copyright-sensitive information is sent, the sender (and assumedly owner of the copyright) has to trust the recipient that the rights are not violated. With standard email services the sender loses control the moment the send button is pressed.

Opolis Secure Mail (http://www.opolis.eu) is changing this.

With Opolis all messages and attached documents are sender-to-recipient encrypted and can therefore not be read by anyone else. And, the sender can monitor and follow the entire path of a message and therefore sees immediately if and when the recipient has opened the mail and the attached document.

To optimize the position of owners of copyrights, with Opolis the sender has always full authority over how the recipient can further process a message. Therefore, the sender decides whether the recipient may copy, print, respond to or forward a message or not. Therefore copyrights are optimally protected.

Finally, there is an attachment size limit of 125MB (way more than the usual 10-15MB with standard email) which should easily meet current demands.

Opolis is for free and merely requires that both, the sender and the recipient are Opolis users. The registration process takes approximately 5 minutes.
