Aug. 4, 2010 - PRLog -- Take a Bra, decorate it, hang it up in a gallery and give the proceeds of the silent auction to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute to fund research for Breast Cancer.

That was the concept behind the Bras for the Cause Boston event, being launched this fall by the student club, FASHION N.O.C.S (Noticing Opportunities for Creative Success).  The club is part of the Fashion & Retail Management program at The New England Institute of Art (www.artinstitute.edu/boston) and the event, based on similar initiatives around the country, is being organized under the direction of Department Chair Kathleen Evans.

The concept is to challenge students, faculty, staff and the general public to make a bra, NOT a bra says Kathleen Evans.  “The sky’s the limit on how you tastefully transform the garment,”  she adds.  “This event will not only stretch the imagination and talents of our students, but, we hope, will instill the concept of social responsibility.  As more companies make that a part of their mission, this preparation becomes increasingly important.”

The finished bras will go on display at The Gallery on the Plaza at The New England Institute of Art and will be the centerpiece for a silent auction to be held auction on Thursday, October 21st from 7 to 9 pm.

“We are expecting very innovative transformations,” says Evans. “The Creative Arts and Special Events Program at Dana-Farber is already participating and we hope to have some other luminaries contributing as well.”

All proceeds from the auction will benefit the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

Anyone can design a bra for display.  To participate, go to http://brasforthecauseboston.org/ and download a form and the rules.   A donation of $5 for NEiA students and $10 for others is requested for The Education Foundation Scholarship Fund.  The monies collected will be used solely for scholarships for students in a degree program at The New England Institute of Art.
