"Online business owners are always trying to find and apply new and creative strategies to drive incoming traffic to their website and boost web sales. If you are one of them (and who isn't?), this article will give you some techniques to do it for your online business website.

1. A very effective kind of marketing is affiliate marketing. This can quickly boost your web sales because if your commission is high enough and your product and landing page look like they will convert well, you will acquire a motivated and experienced outside sales force selling your product all over the web and though their lists in no time. Search for some credible affiliate marketers who have experience selling similar products and have already built a list of prospects. The interesting thing about affiliate marketing is that people tend to believe what these marketers are saying because they have established credibility in the market and people trust them.

2. Look for co-marketing opportunities. Research other companies selling complementary products to yours. Often, these marketers will be interested in co-promoting your product for a commission. For example, let's say you sell an e-book on how to boost websites in the search rankings through SEO. You may approach someone selling website traffic generating software and ask if they are interested in promoting your e-book on their thank you page. Customers who have just bought product are often open to complementary products and are already in "the buying mood." Other ways of co-marketing include bundling your product in with someone else's or even offering one of your lower priced products as a free giveaway bonus to buyers of complementary products. Even if you make nothing from the "sale," you will be building a highly qualified list of people who have bought similar products and are now familiar with you and the value you offer.

3. Become a source of valuable information for people in your target market by posting a wealth of relevant content on your website. Not only will this increase your credibility when visitors come to your site, but it also helps bring your more traffic by optimizing your search engine results. You many want to consider hiring a good SEO firm that can write search engine optimized content for your website. An optimized site ranks higher in the search engines and one with robust and updated content will tend to stay there and even climb over time.

4. One tactic that is often overlooked is to design a simple and user friendly website that visitors find it easy to navigate. The biggest example of such a site is Google. Have you seen how simple and clean the website is? That is why people use it the most. Do not put useless and broken links on your website. This will only result in visitors getting frustrated and leaving your site without buying. Create an easy, simple and clean website design with clear navigation, a logical flow of information and a minimum of graphic distractions. Graphics and particularly animations should be used sparingly unless you have a compelling reason to have them there, for example, if you have a graphic design company or some other business that relies on a graphic presentation. Clean, easy websites are more pleasant to use and encourage users to visit the website again and again.

5. Try putting comparative prices on your website. Tell your customers how your website offers the best deals and how your products are more affordable and/or give better value than the products of your competitors. Particularly good deals may prompt visitors to spread the word virally to their friends and colleagues through email and social media, which gives you a huge boost to your traffic, web sales and profit. It may even be worth it to offer a "loss leader" where you price a particular product at below cost for a limited time. Even though you won't be making a profit from those sales, you will benefit from increased exposure and you will be building a list of buyers. People who have made a purchase from you are much more likely to buy again and again, so getting buyers, even at an initial loss, will end up making you much more money in the long run than if you had just left all prices at a normal markup."
