July 29, 2010 - PRLog -- Dome cameras are used in almost every application to provide an extra layer of security for both residential and commercial applications.  A dome camera is versatile, simple to install, and has the ability to almost mount anywhere.  You have the option to buy dome cameras for both indoor and outdoor applications.  The outdoor dome camera will have a weatherproof or vandal proof housing that will protect the camera from vandalism or outside environmental conditions.  The indoor dome camera will have a less rugged outer shell and is made to be mounted on the wall or ceiling in a home or a business.  Most commonly an outdoor dome camera is a little most expensive because you are paying for the extra outer materials that are added to protect the camera. http://www.cablingplus.com/t/surveillance/security-cameras/dome-cameras

Here are some factors you should think about before buying dome cameras:

•What is the warranty?  If you are going to invest in surveillance equipment it is recommended to buy the equipment that offers a strong warranty.  Remember these are electronics.  But if a camera offers a 1 year warranty there is a good chance it will only last one year.  So now you have to re-buy and re-install a new camera.  This all takes time and more $.

•What voltage does the dome camera need?  Dome cameras come in 12vdc or 24vac configurations.  If you are adding a new camera to an existing system you will need to match the voltage of the current system to the camera.  Or you can buy a dual voltage dome camera which means it does not matter what the power is.  The camera will work with either or.  It is dual sensing so the camera will automatically take the power type you give it.

•Who is the manufacture?  If the camera is a no name import brand then there is a good chance the camera will already have a short term warranty.  But it is recommended to buy cameras from manufacturers that will still be around in a couple of years.  Pick a brand that is made by a reputable company.  Do your research!

•Last step it to get technical.  Pick a camera that fits your needs.  Do you need an indoor or outdoor dome camera?  Do you need a camera that has infrared or do you already have plenty of light?  Do you need a dome camera with a varifocal lens so you can adjust the view or is a camera with a fixed lens fine for the application at hand?

The goal is really to buy the right camera for your application and buy one that lasts!  Why spend numerous dollars on a cheap security cameras that will only last a year or so.  Like the cameras you can buy at a local electronics store or like a Costco.

If you need assistance in choosing the right camera to use in securing your home or business call Cabling Plus and let a technical professional assist you in making the best decision for your surveillance system.
