Why the hell should you do Social Media ?

July 28, 2010 - PRLog -- Those who do not learn the lessons of History are doomed to repeat the mistakes, I remember reading that in school and perhaps some scholar will remind me who said it. Some prominent business investor also said recently 'When you are successful that is the time to change,' I think they both refer to keeping abeast of the changing business enviroment and rolling wth the punches.

Ok no more euphanisms, I am surprised more companies are not leaping at the opportunities in Social Media, I read the biggest companies and to a larger extent the more succesful forward thinking ones, like Grammy GMM and Metropoint, two giants in Bangkok, who recently have hired SMM staff to take on sole responsibilty of promoting thier companies to this medium.

If you are in the Hospitalty game here is a wake up call! If you have not subscribed to Foursquare then you may have an ally or an enemy killing or promoting your business in the name of a mayor. A mayor is a person who is a member of foursquare.com and has claimed the role of Mayor simply by logging in on their phone each time they have visited your establishment and now they hold sway over your business,they could even take a picture of their meal in front of them and post immediately on Facebook, heck some Mayors in the U.S. are given expert 'critique status' and are given free meals and treated like royalty, because the business owners know all to well the impact of the Mayors recommendations good or bad. They are a bit like mega bloggers who are approached everyday to extol some product and are offered many thousands of dollars as their opinion is highly sought after as being nuetral and not jaded by Advertising dollars, but hey the guys got to eat sometime right?

Nobody believes advertisers any more, we are a more educated society, well some of us are, my girlfriend is still indoctrinated by the Ulay ads, but I think that is just a case of brand repitition. More and more people Google to get an honest view from Social Media, but beware the companies are now infiltrating social media, well it's a case of having too or die!
