Who is the guy behind the mask?

July 10, 2010 - PRLog -- I was intrigued by what sort of practitioner specializes in Cosmetic surgery so I went along to one of Thailand’s busiest doctors to find the man behind the mask:

Naravee’s surgery is a short taxi ride from Onnut BTS station in the heart of Bangkok. I was greeted warmly by staff then shown to a consulting room. The Doctor arrived and was warned strictly by their staff we have exactly 15 minutes before his next surgery!

Dr Ronachai is a warm person who was very gracious for my time and apologized for his time restraints, so we got straight under way.

Have you always wanted to be a Doctor?

I was the youngest of 7 so in my family it is expected for the oldest to take care of the family business so I was lucky in that respect I had a free reign for career aspirations. We always enjoyed playing at Doctors and nurses when we were young

When did you first practice medicine as an MD?

1983 I graduated at the University hospital in Khon Kaen and then I received a scholarship to study constructive and reconstructive plastic surgery in Singapore. Over the years I have trained in Glasgow UK, Kentucky US and may other cities. You have to constantly improve and learn the latest techniques I am always fascinated by new surgery improvements to enhance our work as surgeons. The Vaser Hi Def Liposuction upgrade courses are over a million baht each but it is pivotal for me to keep at the top of my game.

Why cosmetic surgery?

Like any branch of medicine the reward comes when you make things better, the feeling when a patient sees your work and they are happy is indescribable I am sure any Doctor does their work for the same reason. It’s especially delightful when a parent sees the children and you can make such a remarkable difference to the whole family, that is wealth!

Why did you specialize in Liposuction?

Around 25 years ago Liposuction started to become more accepted and I followed its progress avidly and it has come such a long way forward. I personally have been specializing in liposuction techniques for over 10 years I am a member of the American Society of Cosmetic Surgeons and have performed over 500 operations, and performed over 300 Vaser Liposuction procedures. We now have new high definition procedures, which I am proud to say I am one of the only people in Thailand to be trained. This new procedure is a lot more easier for the patient as we use a new technique to add a water based solution that turns most of the fat to a milky base and we extract a lot less blood now, meaning your patient recovers a lot quicker and we have more freedom to sculpture figures as the work is less tiring for the surgeon involved, liposuction isn’t as much now about removing excess fat as much as it is about creating six pacs for the men and rediscovering a ladies pre baby shape. For me it is as fascinating as it is rewarding.  Of course watching one of our patients come runner up in the Miss Tiffany beauty contest was pretty good too

Any advice for new-comers?

Take it step by step specializing in any branch is a life’s work you got to love it. You need to study as much in the after effects and the correctional procedures as much as the procedure itself. I benchmark my work with the best in the world this is the only way to grow yourself as a person and a practitioner.

What can Thailand do to improve its standing as the medical hub of Thailand?

I feel politically we are on the right track although it will take a long time to heal, but we as a nation get over these things quickly. People will always see Thailand as a land of smiles and beautiful beaches regardless of our inner problems that creep up from time to time.
