June 27, 2010 - PRLog -- In the Collection entitled “The Strange Wedding Ceremony”, Lee applies “What is form that is emptiness; what is emptiness is form” theory of the Prajñaparamita Heart Sutra (The Essence of Perfect Wisdom) to the use of different texture of materials, see-through VS non see-through and Victorian VS Surrealism in his F/W10 Collection, integrating them into these subtle, simple yet romantic designs, signifying the meaning of “hitting the middle path” and bringing out the balance of beauty and sustainability.

Wedding ceremony marks the beginning of a new life between two persons who are meant to be together by the strange paths of destiny. Love grows “till death do them part” one day, and saying goodbye to the loved one at the funeral only means meeting each other again in heaven. Lee establishes metaphors between the two rites of passages and transforms these abstract ideas by combining opposite elements into his design, such as, black mini dress with white veil.

The Collection is divided into four major wedding elements: Bows; Flowers; Light Fabric Combination (combining organza and cashmere etc); Long Trail and Veil, which is inspired by the 19th century Victorian era with a touch of Surrealism as well as incorporating the shape of a ladybug and flamingo elements with shoes, hats and the dresses’ collars. Lee adds amusing imagination and colors into his extraordinary creations, bringing funeral and wedding elements together in a peculiar harmony, which demonstrates that love does exist in different rites of passages.

Lee was born in South Korea and graduated in Fashion Design at Hongik University in Seoul and is pursuing his Doctoral Degree at the moment while working on his new collection every season. He was announced as the winner of the 2nd Edition of El Botón-MANGO Fashion Awards in Barcelona and was acknowledged by important fashion people such as Oscar de la Renta and Nina Garcia. Last April, the collection which Lee Jean Youn submitted for the “El Botón- MANGO Fashion Awards” was exhibited together with the other finalists at Passeig de Gràcia in Barcelona. He also designed a limited-edition collection, LEE JEAN YOUN For MANGO, which was launched in May at MANGO stores in different countries and online.

Throughout his 12-year career, Lee has won numerous awards including the Jury Prize of the 21st Century Superiority Talent Award, the Grand Prix Seoul Venture Design Collection and the Grand Prix 2nd Doota Venture Designer Contest. His designs have been exhibited at the China Qingdao Fashion Week, the Hong Kong Fashion Week, the “Who’s Next” Fair in Paris and the Las Vegas Magic Show.
