A Pretty Website Alone Won't Bring Customers

Search engine optimization involves more than just building a website that is friendly to search engines, says a Chicago-area web marketing expert.

June 21, 2010 - PRLog -- Upset that his newly-designed website wasn’t bringing in traffic, a manufacturer in the Chicago area refused to make full payment to his web designer. The business owner apparently thought that building a well-designed website would be enough to pull in new customers. But it wasn’t happening.

“Maybe we web designers aren’t making things clear to our clients,” said Kevin Banet, president of TreeFrogClick, Inc., a web marketing company in the Chicago area. Banet said that this story was told by a web designer that he knew. “Building a website won’t automatically bring in new customers,” he said. “Yes, the website should be attractive, easy to navigate, and search engine friendly. But that’s just laying the foundation,” he said, adding that Google has hundreds of parameters it uses to rank pages.

Good search engine optimization (SEO) is an ongoing process that involves updating your website on a regular basis, as well as doing other practices, Banet said.
