"Taking your time with list building can enable you to increase online sales and also to contact people interested in your niche practically at will. That is a very useful thing to be able to do, and there are a number of easy ways in which you can build your list, although all fundamentally involve an autoresponder.

It is not the purpose here to explain the mechanics of autoresponders, suffice it to mention that if your web host does not offer you a good functional autoresponder with your hosting plan, then there are excellent options online including AWeber and GetResponse.

They do cost money, but you generally pay according to the size of your list, and the more successful you are at list building then the more you will pay. However, that also infers that you pay according to your potential to make money, which seems fairer than everybody paying the same.

The most popular method for list building is to place a subscription form on a web page or a blog. A web page that has been designed only to secure visitors' names and email addresses is referred to as a 'squeeze page' and its sole function is list building. A squeeze page should be designed to persuade visitors to fill in the registration form for your list, and should describe all the benefits of doing so - it is important to focus on the benefits to the visitor, and not how great you are.

Do not, for example, suggest that they should fill in the form because you can send them your latest eBook, or you can give them a discount on your latest products. Instead, focus on the benefits they will receive by joining your group, such as free information on the niche, regular emails and perhaps even a newsletter offering them information on your specialty.

Your squeeze page can help you to build a list by providing some examples of success in your particular field of alternative therapy, and how the reader can benefit - but with no mention of products or cost. A squeeze page is not a sales page but a tool to persuade them to fill in the form. You can offer list-building inducements such as:

a) A free report on how successful Reiki has been in stimulating the body's natural healing processes with digestive or breathing disorders, or how a Reiki master's course has benefited others.

b) An eBook on spiritual healing, its objectives and its execution.

c) A 7 - 10 part course (delivered by autoresponder) on holistic healing, astrology or even the various methods of alternative therapy available today in the USA, UK or wherever you are based.

The last mentioned, the course, is very popular in list building because it is not only attractive to many people interested in your niche, and so attracts more respondents, but you can also use the various parts of the course as a reason for regularly emailing your list.

These mailings can be the regular parts of the course, programmed to be sent out after days 1,4,7 and so on after registration, but they can also take the form of a mass mailing of 'special pages' that you can write on a regular basis and send out to everybody. That enables you to gradually introduce your products, although you must again focus on the benefits to the reader or prospective customer.

List building can be an extremely profitable marketing technique that will not only result in increased online sales, but also in your reputation growing in the eyes of your list. The more they respect your knowledge of your subject the more liable they will be to purchase from you. Also, don't forget the well-proven fact that the average person takes from 7-8 exposures to a product before they decide to purchase it. Hence the repetition of adverts on TV and in the press.

You can also add a registration form to your blog: you could design a separate blog page for it, and optimize it as much as you can for the search engines, particularly Google, just as you would a regular web page. Your blog page is as liable to be listed and visited as any other form of web page, so can also be optimized to attract the search engines and to persuade them to allocate you a high listing for the keyword you are using.

However, you can also add the form to your sidebar, so that anybody visiting your blog can simply fill it in and click on 'Register'. Incidentally, rather than use a button named 'register', it has been proved that buttons with text such as 'Yes Please', or 'Count me In' give better results. Many people do not like 'registering' but they don't mind being 'counted in' for something. It's psychological and it frequently works, even if there is no other difference in the design of the form.

So in conclusion, list building is a very effective way to increase online sales and giving you the opportunity of collecting the contact details of visitors that you would otherwise never hear from again if you just let them leave your website after their first visit." (ezinearticles)
