June 15, 2010 - PRLog -- BEN LOMOND, CA: Transition US is excited to announce that Transition San Lorenzo Valley has become the 69th official Transition Initiative in the United States.  Transition Initiatives start when a small collection of motivated individuals within a community come together with a shared concern: how can our community respond to the challenges and opportunities of peak oil, climate change and the economic crisis?  This small team of people begins by forming an initiating group and then adopts the Transition Model with the intention of engaging a significant proportion of the people in their community to kick off a Transition Initiative.

Transition San Lorenzo Valley’s initial contact person is Judith Broadhurst and their Initiating Steering Committee is comprised of a diverse set of individuals, each with deep roots in the local community.  Becky Barrett, a Steering Committee member said, “It has become increasingly clear that we all must change the way we live if we are to maintain a caring relationship with our home.  Changing behavior in ways that benefit our future and the future of our children is a joyful opportunity.  I feel an abundance of joy that I can be part of a process that will affect those changes. The only thing better is meeting lots of other people who feel just like I do!  We set out to awaken the inhabitants of the "room" of our home, and found that we are part of many.  Today I celebrate a future that holds hope, health, and happiness.“  Judith Broadhurst added that, “The San Lorenzo Valley is often among the two hardest-hit places during any natural disaster in our region.  That fact and just being in a mountain valley, not on a main highway, has made us more self-reliant and more aware of the need to be prepared. We just need to build on the strong sense of community that already exists here. We can be the catalyst and connector to get more people and organizations collaborating and sharing resources so we're all helping each other and pulling together in the same direction.”
