June 9, 2010 - PRLog -- When author Michael Malott and his son moved into a tiny apartment above one of San Francisco’s leading Italian restaurants, little did he know the role the restaurant and his son would end up playing in Malott’s newest children’s book effort “The Adventures of Crusty the Crab”.

Malott following up to his 2008 debut solo children’s book release; “The Adventures of Seymour the Cat” had no idea what his next children’s book would be about.  He toyed with various ideas and storyline, but it wasn’t until after his son and the owner of the restaurant downstairs had created an amazing bond, that the idea just fell into place.

Set in San Francisco, Crusty is a crab that lives in Fisherman’s Wharf.  He has many friends, among those friends is a little boy named Zachary.  Zachary lives in North Beach and comes down often to visit and play with Crusty.  One day Crusty decides to hop a cable car up to North beach to find Zachary.  Crusty ends up getting lost and runs across Maurizio Florese, who is the real life owner of the Mona Lisa Restaurant in North Beach.  Maurizio steps in and saves the day helping Crusty find Zachary, and making sure Crusty and Zachary are well fed.  The story has become an instant hit with everyone who has had the opportunity to read it.

Crusty the Crab is a real life pet crab of Malott’s five-year-old son, Zachary and the Mona Lisa is in fact the restaurant that Michael and his five-year-old son, Zachary live above.  “Maurizio treated us like we were his family” Malott states adding; “He is the hero in this book, but he’s also a real life hero to my son and I for the way he has treated us and treats others”.  Malott’s young son has a very outgoing personality and bonded with the Mona Lisa owner right off the bat.  Maurizio also made sure that Malott and his son were well fed as well, making them his personal guests on many occasions in his restaurant.  The Mona Lisa is actually considered by many to be the best Italian restaurant in San Francisco.  Malott recalls in particular the night Maurizio introduced Malott’s son to Peter Mayhew, the British actor who played Chewbacca in the Star wars movies.

Although he has authored some books for mature audiences, much of Malott’s recognition as a writer is the result of co-authoring several children’s books with his young son Zachary.  Together as a father and son writing team, they have worked together to get a total of ten children’s books written and published over the past three years.  This is only Michael’s second solo children’s book effort.

Malott left a successful and lucrative career touring with major recording artists to be a full time dad to his son, Zachary three years ago, when Zachary was just two years old.

What is highly unique about Michael’s solo children’s books is that they feature Malott’s own artistic renderings.  The result is a “pop art-ish” style that’s unlike any other children’s book on the market.  Perhaps showing the huge influence Andy Warhol has on Malott’s life.  In fact, children can actually color the pages, so the book serves a dual purpose.  Malott also manages to slip in several messages into his text which sends safety messages to children.  Malott has proven to be a most versatile writer, publishing an array of writing styles in several assorted book titles.  For an adult audience he has written biographies, fiction, and documented historic controversial topics.  As a writer for children he has written an array of children’s books, both with his son and on his own.  The father and son talents are showcased on their website; www.zachscorporation.com.

As for Michael’s latest children’s book release, “The Adventures of Crusty the Crab”; the book is available at Tower, Border’s, and Barnes & Noble as well as Amazon.com and various retailers on the internet.
