Tfl Appoints Bike Dock Solutions To Provide Secure Parking Along New Cycle Superhighways

June 8, 2010 - PRLog -- Bike Dock Solutions, the specialist provider of secure cycle parking equipment and accessories, has been selected by Transport for London to provide a range of equipment for the capital’s first two cycle superhighways.

The first two routes which will open this summer are among the highest density routes planned. They will be from Barking into Tower Gateway via the A13 and from Merton into the City of London via the A24 and A3.Ten more routes will be introduced by 2015. The routes will be clearly marked in blue and are intended to improve conditions for people who already commute by bike and encourage others to do so.

Bike Dock Solutions will install Sheffield Stands, ‘toast racks’ and cycle compounds at up to 2000 locations – public and commercial – along the length of both routes.

The Sheffield Stands are fabricated locally from highly durable 50mm mild steel tube and are a good value, low maintenance and minimalist solution to bike parking, where the shape allows the bike frame and wheel to both be securely locked on to the stand. The steel base frame of the company’s Toast Rack product provides added stability and strength against wear and tear and is ideal for locations requiring several stands.

Bike Dock’s cycle compounds offer a lockable gate for maximum security, which is perfect for schools or workplaces where the compound can be locked up for most of the day. This is an effective method of ensuring total security as users can also lock any peripherals in with their bikes.

“In the UK, a bicycle is stolen every minute and less than 5% of those are returned to

theft is the single greatest deterrent to cycle use after road safety fears. Transport for London’s decision to install this equipment will hopefully persuade cyclists to make good use of the first two superhighways.”
