Getting decision-makers Fit for Leadership

The course was born when director Henry Hopkins learned about the unique training programmes developed for professional sportspeople at the Porsche Experience Centre, Silverstone.  However, as he points out, “in the boardroom the effects of fitness are harder to measure and attribute than in sport, where performance feedback is often more immediate and tangible.”

The programme reminds leaders that emotions, bio-rhythms, stress and nutrition affect leadership performance, and enables them to manage energy better, identify new opportunities and aim for higher levels of achievement. Jenny Cooper, a senior manager at food manufacturing company Danone, said of the course: “it made me think and resonated with me more than any other course I have attended before.”

Research by the CIPD suggests that building ‘communities of leaders’ is the best way of stimulating the changeability that organisations need. “As leaders increasingly find themselves collaborating, the quality of their interactions becomes more apparent. This is where Emotional Intelligence plays a part, as it defines how we relate to others by understanding and managing our own emotions,” says Hopkins.
